Butch back in print!

I promise that I'm not getting lazy with my writing yet, though this is the second post in a row where I'm linking to someone else's article. This one, though is about my personal model of jazz doublebass, Butch Warren. We lost Butch 10 years ago, it seems more recent. I'll forever be grateful for the little bit of time and relationship that I had with him and still go to his recordings almost weekly for making sure that I stay rooted in that sound and feel. He was not a virtuoso the way that say Scott LaFaro or NHOP were, but he did something beautiful and compelling and essential better than anyone else I've heard and I still haven't quite figured out how to do it. Thank you for the on-going lesson, Butch. I hope you are resting well.

In other news, Two Eyes seems to have a recurring monthly, Saturday night at Station 18 in Ballard. We'll be back there on June 10th. We need the equivalent recurring gig in Tacoma, but Seattle is happening better for us right now. We have a few other spots in the works and are continuing to compose and arrange things that we love and can't wait to share. The upside with this group feels big. See our full calendar here as we add things to it and please come join us when you can use a night out…we can all use a night out!
